Chuck Taylor Retirement
Chuck retired after 33 years at Hull Stephens Associates Architects.
He was hired by B Dale Case and began work at G. E. Associates
Architects in October 1972. G. E. Associates was part of The Case
Team. In 1972, the Architectural firm consisted of a Registered
Architect and 9 employees working at ... what did they call those
things, Oh yea... Drafting Boards.
Prior to G. E. Associates, Chuck worked for a General
Contractor and an Architectural firm in New York state. He also
spent 4 years in the US Navy from 1966-1970.
When Dale Case retired in 1979, Chuck was one of the 4 (Cliff
Hull, Doug Stephens and Don Durance, along with Chuck) to purchase
the stock of G. E. Associates Architects. And the rest … is history.
Chuck's duties over the years, of course, started as drafting,
running blueprints, doing what ever he was ask to do. He took
on the handyman responsibilities- building, fixing, repairing,
etc. as needed. His responsibilities have included: Board of Directors
member, Project Manager for commercial and residential, Office
Manager, Accounting, Planning Special Events, Advertising, Marketing,
and Webmaster for the company Website.
Chuck was honored when the staff and employees gathered
for their Annual Christmas Gathering. Some of the comments
made include the following:
"Chuck is a fine Christian professional, who represents our
company very well. He acts & dressed professionally, is faithful,
prompt, & dependable. He has been a very fine detailed Project
Manager for several churches', commercial, & residential projects."
"He usually is one of the first persons to greet people as they
walked in the door, or on the phone, and he also tries to make
them feel welcomed. He is optimistic, very patient, & helpful
with clients & student employees."
"Chuck was a mentor to many students - about two dozen students
over a 10 year period. He has received Appreciation Awards from
Swartz Creek High School, Carman Ainsworth High School, Flint
Chamber of Commerce, the Student Co-op mentoring Program- for
being involved in their co-op programs, plus mentoring students
from Baker College. For several years he would go to the local
high schools on Career Awareness Day & talk to the students about
the merits of architecture."
"Many students are indebted to him for the mentoring he provided.
He had great patience with them, & helped to develop them into
fine citizens. Some studying to become doctors, pharmacists, carpenters,
retail business people, teachers, professional secretary's, ministers,
homemakers, draftspersons, aspiring architects, and interior designers."
"Another important responsibility Chuck had was Acting Corporate
Secretary/Treasurer. He was very diligent, professional, & detailed
in note taking and organization. Financially he was very efficient,
careful, & thorough. He always prepared excellent Annual Meeting
records, weekly financial statements, & projections. He also worked
well with our attorneys, CPAs and Corporate Officers. He was very
helpful in maintaining our organizations flow."
Chuck and his wife June own property in upstate New York. Chuck
will continue to work on restoring the original Mullen Homestead
farmhouse (June's family). They will also be renovating and restoring
an old home in the village (Andover, New York) approximately 6
miles from the farm.
Friends, associates, and former employees of HSAA gathered
on Friday December 30th, 2006 and shared a time of remembering
with Chuck.
